I love the colours too!
you could make the hat more floppy, and long.. so it kinda flops out a bit but still looks not flat? er if that makes sense.

Maybe its her "I'm working on art, don't bother me face"? 
I read a manga where a manga artist makes faces and stuff when working on her art, and when working on a fight scene or is drawing an angry character she makes corresponding faces. XD Me personally, I sometimes make weird noises. *cough*
