Hmmm, older story with some humor:

This happened a few years ago now.

So I was attending a mushroom conference in central Mexico and after the academic papers are presented a bunch of us convince one of the local professors to use his contacts to get us into some interesting places to go mushrooming (because of course).
On the way to visit a group of Tlahuica who are friends with him and will let us (under strict supervision) wander their lands to hunt mushrooms, we stop at the Lagunas de Zempoala park for late breakfast (really lunch) and there's a group of schoolkids there doing a field trip of some kind.

And they're wandering the trails....

and there's this one area where you cross an obviously less-than-industrial bridge.
It's made of wood and ropes.
It sways with every step.

Some of the young boys are clearly enjoying waiting until there are several girls on the bridge, and then jumping up and down so the girls yelp when the bridge sways and bounces.

Well.
This was an opportunity.
We're maybe 10 meters away, and one of us picks up a bunch of dry sticks and starts handing them out.

I'm puzzled at first and look at him in query, but he just hushes us and motions at the bridge, mimes something, and starts counting off.

I get it just in time to break my stick along with everyone else just as the boys jump again....

ALL of the kids on the bridge scream and grab the hand-ropes, boys as well as girls this time, and we bust out laughing and show them the sticks we just broke to make it sound like the bridge was falling apart.

The boys stopped jumping on the bridge to tease the girls, after that.

I laughed about it for days.

Hah.

What is it about boys that they feel the need to constantly scare girls? :mcsquee:

I like to optimistically think that it's so they can comfort them after, so it's actually an exercise to get closer rather than just being a jerk.

(I mean yeah some are just jerks, but boyfriends like to scare girlfriends so hopefully it's the good motivation.)

I think it's something to do with the cultural bias that men should be "strong" (whatever that means in that culture) and one way to boost strength is in comparison to others; so if something scares women but not men then the men seem strong in comparison, right?
Maybe?
I don't know.
It's not something I ever really understood, to be honest. I'm just trying to brainstorm why it might be.

Hm.

Something to make people laugh....

Okay, here's a groaner I heard recently:

What did the picture say to the painter?
Spoiler
Help! I'm being framed!

We are all dumber for having heard that.

:mclaugh:

Paint makes me think of my paint joke, which I may have already told in this thread but am too lazy to page through and check.

What's red and smells like blue paint?
Spoiler
Red paint!

I think I've heard that one from you before, but I don't know if it was from this thread or another...

Hm.

It turns out most of the jokes I know are rather in the style of "Dad jokes" (if I understand that term correctly).

So proceed at your own peril, you've been warned!
Spoiler
Two atoms walk into a bar.
They have a bunch to drink and are having a great time.
When the night is over and they've paid their tab, they're about to walk out the door...
but one of them suddenly turns to the other.

"Oh no! I think I've lost an electron?"

"Ugh, you would say that at this time of night. Well, are you really sure?"
.
.
.
"Yes, I'm positive!"
Because if you're going to go for silly jokes, NERDY silly jokes are even better.

Ha! That reminds ME of a lame element joke. Why should you never trust an atom?
Spoiler
Because they make up everything!

So, I don't actually remember where I've heard this joke but it's now my go-to joke whenever I need one:

Why aren't koalas classified as bears?
Spoiler
Because they don't have the right koalafications :mclaugh:
