Oh! They had some of those just off the beach on this one beach where I used to live nearby, my real mom was so afraid that I'd fall into one. x'D

I don't think sinkholes would apply in the hourglass world... where collapses happen they would happen for other reason (like... sinking through an hourglass) and the point of the unmoving city area is that it's... unmoving. The geography is kept in stasis (by maaaaaagiiiiic). Which is probably why the underground city could only possibly be under the unmoving city :)
