Almost anything can coexist if done right
Most don't tho
I went to a Christian camp cuz the teligion was reputed to be in the background
Yeah, it was a lot more in the foreground once the parents left
They empthasized the Wild West theme when the parents were around, and then that hit the background after the parents left
And once I was there way early (they generally taking people in around lunchtime, I was there before breakfast cuz everyone who could take me were super busy that day), and when the kids aren't there there's a whole lot less religion again
Except for all the hail hey-zeus in the sky yap it was a pretty decent camp. Didn't care for the Clantons versus Daltons thing (prize: 10¢ sucker you could get at the store...you bit in and you choked on the dust/powder. Blech) after the first couple of years, but even those years i did my best to stay out of the religious bits
So during prayers, never volunteered. During religious chat, kept quiet. The one time I participated (draw hand showing ASL for ily, wrote "god loves you" because religion camp), it was ripped and tossed cuz the forefinger "looked like a middle finger"
Geh. That year was the last year I went and the worst of all the years. Cabinmates got mad cuz the whole read bibble I tended to just stare blankly at a random page. Memory spew verses I never did cuz my first few years i didn't realize it was a thing, the rest I ignored it. Deliberately fucked one up when the counselor tried to cheat and just have me repeat it word by word after her. Say the wrong word, refuse to say it
Cuz they used scare tactics, a bit, to keep converts. "Oh you not Christian you going to hell" didn't sit right with me
"Oh you a kid who was brutally murdered. You were Hindu. You going to hell" me: that is cruel. Kid was killed and you day they're gonna suffer. Nuh-uh
After that particularly nasty year I started working at my summer job so I stopped going
Also been to a couple of churches
The first one I stopped going to, I was really little. I remember them correcting me with my name because they assumed it was spelled wrong, even when my parents told the church that yes, I am spelling my name right. Stop telling her and us otherwise. They didn't, I stopped going, and i had this amazing dream where a tsunami or something (the closest water you can see regularly is a pond, and that's fairly far from said church) wiped out the entire church and left me as the sole survivor
Then when I was in middle school i went to one that is a lot more honest. Yeah, god did a lot of shitty stuff. Yeah, he also did a lot of good stuff. But if we were created like god and are capable of changing our ways, then so can god
And go into detail
Like mom isn't particularly religious and she liked it
Also, that pastor has a cheap katana and it's more likely to wear a Hawaiian shirt than the usual pastor outfit
Oh, when I was spending a weekend at "friend's" house we went to church with her mom and holy fuck it was boring
Oops I babbled. Call me Babblong
