You might be right that people might be more accustomed to it nowadays, but for me I think it wasn't necessarily the problem that the books were darker, more like, I had different expectations, maybe? Because it was such a shift from the earlier parts of the series. I didn't dislike the dark parts, I was missing the lighter and more fun parts that I was used to and expecting.

I see what you mean. It's always a good thing when stories come with more "plot" after a while but it often means that the lighter/fun part gets cut. I wish we could find more of both at the same time xD Including series. I often stop after 2 seasons xD

I know what you mean, quite often the initial charm and fun is lost as the plot becomes more complicated and convoluted over the seasons. Doesn't even necessarily become darker, just more dense plot developments and less fun everyday scenes that contributed to the initial charm...

Yup ! That's how you end up reading only 'informational' stuff ahah (or watching animated series xD)
Edit: thinking about Supernatural, probably the best example. It was really nice at the beginning but quickly turned out as ridiculous as it was previously good... I don't even get how there can be that much season. ppl are really buying into that shit ?
