For some it might be hmm, "just a couple more dollars & i'll get that extra FC" and might motivate them to donate more, but for some users it might just as well be "I need 5FC, now I can get them for $10 instead of $12.50",
There probably might just as well be users who need a certain amount of FC and will not donate more when they have reached the number of FC.
What I mean is, yes, it could be this way around, that a user A would normally just donate $7.50, but with a discount would donate $10 to get one additional FC "for free", but it could just as well be that a user B wants 5Fc, would usually donate $12.50, but now will only donate $10, which would make us end up with less donations.
yes, i can see your point. i guess i've just done too much retail, i think of it like when a store runs a sale on something. some people will come in just for the sale item, some people who might normally just browse or came in to buy other stuff will buy the sale item on impulse, some people who come for the sale item might buy multiples, and some will come in for the sale item & buy other merchandise too- and in all cases, the idea is to get them to come back again & spend more. i guess donations don't necessarily work that way.

another good point. though perhaps user C will think, "hmm i was already planning on spending 12.50 because i needed five, i might as well still spend that same 12.50 and get 6"
i must say i am curious to know how it will affect the donation levels in the long & short run.
