I think Hassan is a hero, he is a strong individual and is loyal to Amir till the end. When older kids threatened Amir along with Hassan, Hassan stood up to them and threatened them in return, causing them to back off. I have to admire Hassan's bravery, because I don't know if I could have done the same and actually threaten someone else with a slingshot in the same situation. And later on in the book, even though he got raped by Assef, he still won't let go of Amir's kite. I felt so sick reading that scene that I almost put the book down, but I admired Hassan immensely after that.
