In German you can call it Pentagramm when it has a circle around, sorryyyy. Maybe that's the beard thing again :P

You just call any star with a circle around it a pentagram, just like you call any facial hair a beard... :p
As far as I know a star pointing up is a pentagram, and a star with the point down is a pentacle.

Edit: A Red Kite is good.
It's called 'Rode Wouw' in Holland, apparently. Red Wow. Very fitting if you ask me.

You might also want to consider a red factor canary of course. For another base.

I just looked up common buzzard and man the have pretty stripes. I've never seen predator birds from close up, just flying around, they seem unspectacular from far away.
You want him to have boots? Or bird claws? I need to write that down.

Predator birds are so incredibly spectacular! No, not by color. But their beaks, their wings, their claws, all the mightiness they radiate... I barely know any more spectacular birds in that sense...

Or, if you completely make the arms disappear and turn it into wings (no hands and such visible) and a real birdhead and all, then he should have boots. ^_^

Oh I saw them quiet often as a child, maybe that's why they are nothing special for me I used to live right next to a flood meadow, there were lots of them flying around. But I found the storks more interesting. You could only see them once a year there.

Boots into claws. That doesn't sound like a proper evolution.
