Are knuffels able to hold something in their hand like a staff, sword, bow, a plate of cookies etc.?
Also are animals allowed? Like while the knuffel is growing there is a little puppy that grows up to be a majestic dog along with the knuffel?

They can hold items.
As for animals, I guess it depends how you'd make it. Bg elements are mainly allowed when they're connected directly to knuffel's theme. For example: if you make kitty knuffel girl, you can try giving her a small kitten sitting near her legs. Evolution itself should focus on knuffel, not other elements.
