I just need to fly. And the normal way is clearly impossible, whatever I have tried. If I start working as a flight attendant now, I'll probably work like that forever, since by the time I'm able to start my ATP training I'll be too old. Yes, I know I'm only practically 21 now, but it'll take at least 4 years, then I'll still have to do the training, and by then I'll be like 28 - but no experience yet. This makes me very unappealing to airlines and therefore it'll be unlikely they'll hire me at all, especially if the situation is still anything like this one. The KLM for example has thrown hundreds of people out and last week I met this guy who did his training at KLM, so he has to be a hell of a pilot, and doesn't get hired anywhere, and KLM themselves have just shut all their doors. There are many pilots like this working in a bloody supermarket. Unable to pay back their loans. Ending up like that is the worst nightmare of every aspirant pilot... It's just not gonna work like this.
The Air Force however may be not my cup of tea for many a reason. You'll have to sign for 10 years, so I'll have to spend 10 years of - well I don't know what I'd have to do exactly, but I'm pretty sure I won't like it. Physical training for example. >>
But it does mean I can fly, be it helicopters, F-16s (yeah I wish) or military flight planes or whatever... and if I survive those 10 years, I'll come out ancient, but with a major flight record. Despite the age, airlines are very, very keen to hire people who come out of the military because of their grand experience and skills. So after 10 years of hard work I'll almost certainly be able to enjoy living my dream in peace. Big price, but who knows? Worth it, I guess.
Anyway how big is the chance that a midget lady like me, smoker, drinker, computer nerd, is gonna get into the military. But still it's worth a try I guess. As long as I keep thinking of how I can practically retire after 10 years. Like a boss.
And FYI, I'm perfectly sane, thank you very much. Otherwise I wouldn't even bother to try anything for aviation. 8D
