I sometimes like to dream about having a little cottage, where I grow my own veggies and live fairly isolated. But then I remember how much I love the city; and the decent broadband I get. So I don't think I could live very off-the-grid.

I already live alone with a cat ahah just in a major city so it's always busy.
My current problem is that it's far too expensive where I live ): I can't afford a house here (currently renting) but it's so close to my work and family that I don't really want to move out anywhere else lol. the cost of living here is insanity.

Oh. Yeah living in the city would be expensive. Although living out of the city would have its own complications. Repair, maintenance, etc….like if something breaks down and you can’t find someone to fix it right away…xD;;

I live in a small town, albeit, bigger than the town I grew up in...that's a 10 minute drive away lmao. I'm just glad I bought my house before the inflation of everything. Last year so many houses were put up for sale and were sold within a week or less. And for way more than they would have been beforehand. It's crazy.
I want a little veggie garden, but I need raised garden beds because my dogs would probably get into them because they are butts. They know to not go into the landscaping, but I catch them periodically going in there because they like the decorative grass plants. Someone offered to build me the garden beds, but we never got further than that as he broke his foot. and he's busy getting his garden ready so I don't want to bother him now. (he has a huge garden). I'm just hoping the prices at the farmer's market doesn't go up because I can get a big ole zucchini for $1 that will last me all week or longer (I don't mind how seedy that are when they get that big)

I adore gardens but am a terrible gardener; having a little veggie garden sounds wonderful. I hope you can get your beds built one day.
The cost of living in general has skyrocketed which is why I'd love to live more self-sufficient but it's very hard in this economy/society - There's a lovely shop near me where you bring your own tubs/glasses/bottles and you just pay to fill them up with what you need (mostly grains/oats/spices but also cleaning products) which is a great idea and a great step in the right direction.

Me too. I've never gardened before. Most little flowers I try to grow from seeds die or just don't flower? I have no clue why they never do? Before I start my garden I will need to do some researching for sure.
Oh man that sounds wonderful! I don't see my area having anything like that any time soon. I would try to do most of my shopping there because that sounds so nice. Especially when you want to buy just a little or bulk buy.
I have been taking my own bags to more stores besides the Aldi here. I don't mind having the plastic bags from stores, as I use them for waste bin liners and doggy poo bags, but this one store is famous for putting one item per bag and it's so wasteful! I have over a year supply of bags because of that.

The only gardening ive done is to attempt to grow a few ornamental stuff for fun. Like i did last year with my lotus. Which i suspect didn’t overwinter properly because the water froze all over and the pot leaks now so i have to get a new pot…xD;; so now its just a pot of dirt…8U i still have some lotus seeds so i’d have to start anew lol. They’re easy enough to seed though, especially when the hardest part of it (the scoring of the seeds) has already been done. I literally just pop them in a jar with water and leave it on a windowsill and it’ll start sprouting within 2 weeks lol. XD
I might go hunt for some flower seeds my mom saved of this flower she liked that my sister brought back from one of her roadtrips. Try to grow it or something. Also, maybe start the black eyed susans early this year bc i got the seeds last year very late in the mail and they started but never got the chance to bloom lol.

Ooh a lotus would be so pretty. But yeah, you should have probably brought it some where it wouldn't freeze.
Yeah I didn't realize you need to let the seeds start in a small pot and not just straight in the dirt of a big pot. Like whoops. I've tried growing new succulents from the leaves (I guess that's what the are) from one of my few succulents that are alive still. Only one survived from the batch I got last year. And one, that I call long boi, I've had since I moved in. He just keep growing, but he's missing so many leaves because he kept getting hit. I think I found his new home where he can get sun. But I tried to grow them, but they still tiny. I think I should find a bigger pot for them.
Oh! You just reminded me that I got a seed packet as a party favor last summer I should try growing those.

A Lotus sounds so pretty - I have quite a few houseplants but I have a cat who likes to munch things so need to be careful with what I get (mostly just no flowering plants)
I might look into veggies or something that I can grow indoors - I've tried herbs (basil and lavender) but my basil grew rapidly and then suddenly died and my lavender doesn't seem to be growing at all so I think I just don't have much of a green thumb!!
