I think it might be even more exciting a discovery if Yiddish is the exception to that trend! It leaves open lots of further research into why it doesn't follow the prevailing function, especially if most of the other local languages (Russian included?) all follow the same pattern. Not that you'd want to try and fit all of that kind of follow-up into the same thesis, but it does sound interesting!

it's totally ok. it doesn't really matter how the research ends up. the master's thesis is mainly to see if students can work with data
I wouldn't talk about exceptionality here. it's more about my intuition (which doesn't matter) and an existing analysis (which does) looking less valid now. the most I can do is check it's applicability to Russian because I don't understand that many languages. but it's not to be done in a master's thesis. it would, however, be really interesting to see how many languages actually "behave" according to the analysis (like Russian seems to), how many "partly behave" (like Yiddish seems to) and how many don't at all, and look for patterns.
