you're from England, right? England just sounds like such a cute place, somewhere I wouldn't mind living if it's anywhere similar to the picture I have of it in my head..

our post offices are usually like information centres (I think that's the same as a corner store?) and they sell a lot of stationery and small irrelevant items that you buy even though you know you don't need them.

I read the first 2 HP books as a child but.. I was a child, so that was too long ago to remember details

bored? :mcgasp: I used to watch the movies every weekend when I was a kid.. what is it that doesn't appeal to you? Is it just the genre or .. idk, do you normally dislike similar types of stories (as in, like fantasy/adventure/magic sort of types)?

no, usually it's exactly my genre. I guess there just was no point in watching the stuff that I know anyway. and nothing really encouraged me to watch later movies. I might have felt differently as a kid but now... so they send 11-year-olds on a task to a deadly forest as a punishment..? yea great school

Wow. I simply LOVE HP and I am with Ghost on this one. I return to Hogwarts whenever I feel bored/sick/happy and mostly on rainy days :D
This reminds me, I haven't seen the movies in 8 months or something :o

yeyeah I do kinda see where you're coming from though. Everything has flaws and I guess HP is just one of those things that so many people love so they don't even really take notice of it's flaws because all their focus is just on what they love about it.

I think the story is just so complex and it's cool how it matures as the characters do, at least that's how I feel about the movies, I can't judge the books... yet.. :mcsquee: but I constantly hear they're very very good. Oh! And i'm excited for peeves! He was a fun character in the computer games.

yep, that was a revolutionary thing: to shift through age categories (kids to middle grade to ya) as the characters grow up. it's been done before but most of the market was more like "here are johnny's adventures with pirates when he's 11", "here are johnny's adventures with dinosaurs when he's 11", "here are johnny's adventures with seaweed in space when he's 11", and then HP got super much marketing so it stood out in more ways than one. a whole generation grew up with the books, compare it to growing out of the books like in the case I described - the difference is everything. it's brilliant but I don't think I'll be able to (re-)read it because starting from book 1 is boring (I really remember a lot) and starting from where I left will be confusing due to character names. and there are too many books that are in my age category XD

I really don't understand why this isn't done more often.. Maybe people design a certain brand/appeal for a specific audience and are too scared to change that in case people don't like it so they just play it safe? i don't know but growing up with the characters is soso rewarding if it's done right..

you mentioned rereading the books though.. growing up with the characters might be rewarding while it's happening but then if you want to read the books again later on, the intented audience is inconsistent. That makes more sense now that I think about it. Something like Peppa Pig is still so successful because it's got that consistency.
