Okay, well there is only 1 example in the movie which shows a Valid (someone who got their genes changed) who got into an accident and wound up in a wheelchair. There was one time an officer met this man and the officer was taken aback that the man was in a wheelchair. Of course, he had great genes, that wasn't supposed to happen!
The society in the movie predominantly segregates Valid and In-valids, (people who got their genes changed and people who didn't). The movie is set with parents who had a natural birth for their first child, and genetic selecting for their second.
In the movie it is illegal to discriminate between the Valids and In-valids, but companies (etc.) get around it by doing "genotype profiling" which is used to identify valids to qualify for professional employment while in-valids are forced to menial jobs.
TL;DR Valids are looked to be better because their genes were chosen to be the best genes possible from the two parents, while in-valids were looked down upon.
