Akili, maybe this would answer your question: before birth the doctors got a map of the parents DNA so they can predict the percentage of what their possible child could have and alter it so the child wouldn't get it.
I am not quite sure if this helps ?___?
And Light, I am good :)

Autism is detectable in the womb as far as I know.

Idk bro, that all seems like a really good idea to me. Though it sucks that the kids whose parents are morons and don't get it done get shitty treatment in life. It's not the kid's fault.
I'm just talking about in these kinds of movies. Not in real life. It's crazy expensive now a days to get your DNA mapped.
Is it? I was unaware. I thought they just found out about it when the kid comes out and starts interacting with things and people.

Becca, no, I was wondering about cultural setup in the movie in regards to the prejudices. As in, they are biased against people with preventable-before-birth issues, but what with people who had no issues at all when they were born, and had some kind of accident or cancer (I'm specifically thinking about a friend of mine who became deaf after they operated to remove a cancerous brain tumor; she's fine now except for that, and in remission, but in this kind of society... ?) or whatever other later thing that mimicked a preventable-before-birth issue.
Would that society have also discriminated against them?
But in the relatively short format of a movie it'd be hard to explore every possibility so likely enough they never addressed it...

Okay, well there is only 1 example in the movie which shows a Valid (someone who got their genes changed) who got into an accident and wound up in a wheelchair. There was one time an officer met this man and the officer was taken aback that the man was in a wheelchair. Of course, he had great genes, that wasn't supposed to happen!
The society in the movie predominantly segregates Valid and In-valids, (people who got their genes changed and people who didn't). The movie is set with parents who had a natural birth for their first child, and genetic selecting for their second.
In the movie it is illegal to discriminate between the Valids and In-valids, but companies (etc.) get around it by doing "genotype profiling" which is used to identify valids to qualify for professional employment while in-valids are forced to menial jobs.
TL;DR Valids are looked to be better because their genes were chosen to be the best genes possible from the two parents, while in-valids were looked down upon.

And the guy in the wheelchair, he hires someone else who is able-bodied but has poor genes to masquerade as himself and actually when the police comes he like, crawls out of his wheelchair and goes downstairs and sits on a couch to hide the fact that he's lame. I'm not certain if that's because of prejudice because the wheelchair bound guy never really interacts with the outside world all that much, but I'm assuming that's why he's got a body-double.

He went down stairs because the guy posing as him wasn't in a wheelchair so he couldn't be in one either. They were pretending to be the same person.
It's a great movie, you should watch it if you ever get the chance.

Sorry, I should have made it clear. I'm not certain if the reason he got a body-double is because the society looks down on non-abled bodied people but I'm assuming that's the reason why he got a body-double to continue having his identity be an able-bodied guy.
