I'm sure he's okay. We lost my mom's cat Boomerang for a long while then suddenly there she was down the street from us being cared for. So now we have her back.

Down one way is 90% family, he went that way so we knew where he was
The other way we know from experience are all Mexican and wholly unhelpful cuz cow farm
I have a shirt on the front porch, and a hoodie on the back porch
So if he goes by scent and gets downwind, he can follow momma scent home

Here's something to make you laugh. Our cat Conan was sleeping in the bathroom sink while my mom was showering. And at some point he woke up and was on top of the shower beam. It's metal and about an inch or wider since we have glass instead of shower curtains. And he was sitting up there watching my mom shower. XD
