I extend the canvas, yes, but I don't simply put them side by side and leave it since usually they have so much space between them. I add the others as layers and put them close but with enough space so it's not crowded. Then crop off the excess.

It doesn't take much time to do and I quite like it since I can place them to my own satisfaction.

No, we just leave those as it. :) Some that used to have massive space between the stages, I would crop but don't know if I'd bother anymore.
