Risky... yikes. Anything to do with the arts is risky lol As much as I like to draw, I don't think I can do it as a living..;;

Yeah, of the three people I know with degrees in music, none of them are in fields -wait, I know four. Still, none of them are in fields related to music. Hang on, I know five. Still none of them are...
wait let me just sort this properly in my mind.
B. got a degree in music and she was a bookkeeper.
A. got a degree in music and she went back to school and ended up working for the government in the tax department.
R. got a degree in music and he also went back to school and became a vet.
N. got a degree in music and she ran a fishing boat.
K. got a degree in music and also ended up needing a further degree, and now she's a substitute teacher who also tutors.
M. got a degree in music and she ended up a housewife who didn't work at all.
K (different K) got a degree in music and he ended up in construction.
.... yeah okay there are a weirdly high number of people I know who studied music. Oh! Wait! Different M, she got a double degree in music and history and she DOES use it! Kind of... she teaches piano to neighborhood kids.... that sort of counts?

I guess that counts, but it still is a very low rate of using the degree in your sample ;)
But yeah, I guess that is to be expected.

Mhm... I'm a child development major, and most think of becoming teachers of some sort. But you can do varied positions, like having a business minor working in a company that makes children's toys .3.

That sounds like you have interesting career options ahead of you Nan :)
Do you already know some things you don't want to do? I find that usually easier than knowing what I do want ;)

Haha, at least most of the music grads you know seem to be doing okay! Here's my list of people that I know through J:
J is now a veterinary practice manager (as you know)
S is fully disabled and just kind of got the degree for fun, so now he lives on benefits I guess
D committed suicide in December (yep, really)
K is a famous DJ in Russia... which he kind of was before he got the degree anyway
And that's it XD I knew more musicians kind of laterally through J but I have no idea what they are doing now.
And then here's me with my photography degree, which I actually thought was going to be useless because I was going to end up writing anyway, and I've managed to actually use it with the magazine. Although I will say that almost everything I know, I learned after I graduated... school is not 100% the best environment for the arts, I have to say. It's good to have a place to grow, explore, and learn about tradition, but the only real way to learn is to get out there and do it.
