Well, it really depends on what you expect and want from owning a pet rat. If you want an adorable little being that gets everywhere and is overly curious about everything and pees on you every three seconds just to mark you as its possession and can't sit in one place to let you pet it, then yes. Females are just right for you. (I know what I'm talking about, I own one, and my bf had two before that)
But if you prefer a pet that sit in one place and when it pees, it pees once and no more, you're more of a male rat person. At least that's what every site and expert tells. That females are more active, males are lazy and sit in one place most of the time.
And it is recommended by many to sterilize the rats, so "the junk" (in case of males) goes away and you end up having a very loving creature without all the interference of "the junk"
