Though I feel it should be if they go for auction in marketplace, that the prices aren't too high at first cause we know it'd cause a bid war.

Or sell some in selling forum? =/ though I guess that's a lot of work.

I'm not too sure about this, maybe have an option specifying that you want all of your things sold or something. I had been on a three year hiatus myself and wouldn't be happy to come back to an empty wardrobe.
Maybe if there was like an event or something that you had a chance of getting an older TT item, but still wouldn't want it to be easily abused.

I wouldn't mind an event to get special items that we had before

I recall this being discussed with Firn somewhere... Maybe I mix something up. But I think she said something like @Haze. You just never know if the person is going to go back or no. So it's unsafe to sell out their items just because they were gone for let's say more than a year. Then they come back to see they have nothing. It wouldn't be fair.
On the oher hand, if there was an option to I don't know, inform Firn that "if I don't come back in a year, I'm gone for good", then I think the best thing to do would be if Firn would transfer the items to her mule and sell them from there, like she does sometimes.

Or that event XD Would be cool tbh.

Or maybe those art contests like we had before, though many can't really draw so it might get a bit unfair but still better than nothing.
