The Skeleton items do not cost anything.
The first one requested material. You can either find that on the site by browsing for free or you can dig it up with your Knuffel on candy island for free, or you can simply buy it from the market for one
per flower (I checked, and there are flowers there for that price). And even if you do not like the item I can guarantee you that you will be able to sell it for more than 10 food right away! There is only one single Halloween '12 item in the market right now and the price asked for it is 5000 food. 10 food seem like a good investment for me.
The other skeletons have different tasks for you.
The ones who absolutely do not wish to spend 10 food on an event item can wait a few minutes and see what the other users got from the event.
I know many people don't seem to like communicating here, thus the forums are rather dead, though as this is a FORUM BASED community I can only suggest to everyone to talk with each other. A simple "What item did you get" can get you a long way.
(and by the way, just going into a random hangout thread and asking "What item did you get from the ship today?" and maybe a "Thank you" to the reply will already earn you the 10 you need to pay for 10 flowers in the market!
