I feel you KH.

The thought of registering your religion with the government is a terrifying idea to me. It makes it ridiculously easy to persecute people for their religion.

Like in the US if anyone was registered Muslim I'd be so worried for them. People are so stupid here. They would be kicked out so easy.
Some idiots deport American citizens just because they have Mexican heritage. It's ridiculous.

Also do you get registered at birth? You can't choose your religion when you're born. That's not fair, that's your parents choosing for you.

Yeah, that's how it works here. Your parents state what religion they'll raise you in, basically. You can change it later, when you're an adult.

It's not just tax breaks - here the states actively collects a tax (Kirchensteuer = church tax) from people that are officially in the church and gives that to the church.

Oh, got a church? Okay you need to pay taxes now

Cuz hear tell there's some scumbags who have one sermon a year at their house to claim it as a church and thus evade taxes
Imagine trying to pull that only to find that churches are taxed the same rate

I've seen stories of it, and it wouldn't surprise me to find them to be true

Chrizine explained it already :)

I've been to a funeral a few days ago and I have to admit I hated the atmosphere. But that was a catholic church and not many guests and the priest was a jackass.
That really strengthend my notion to apt out of the church as well.

I feel so awkward talking to really heavily religious people, like when they just talk about it all the time that is, this is more in person than on the forums or online though that I get this feeling.

I have friends who are religious but thankfully don't talk about it much besides to say sorry busy going to church.
