Oh why? Were you afraid that you need to play enthusiasm if you don't like a gift? That is always what I fear xD
Akili, OH sorry, obviously you were talking about the ideolects! Yes, I do love that, it is really cute :)
I think I "celebrated" a few birthdays only. Maybe 10, 11 and 12? Then I stopped and started again with my 20th, also celebrated the ones after that. I usually tend to spend the day or the day before meeting as many friends as possible, say, for coffee or lunch and invite people to my dorm in order to party :)

I think I got overwhelmed by their presents and generosity in it all.
I have terrible self esteem.

Ideolects! Yes! I'd never heard this term before and it is a great word, thank you!
River, is Peter what you named your new phone?
(Nankuii you've been quiet, how are you doing?)
Kitalpha are you more like your grandma or your grandfather that way?

Oh, yay! You make me want to go see some friends too. I've been so busy with family and work lately that it's been a long time... but the best friends always wait when needed, so it will be okay. Maybe I can do a craft night again sometime soon.
River, whoops! >.< That's even better to spend time with, though. A fiance is much more interactive than even a new phone.
I've been going through my grandparents' things lately, since they're about done with independent living at this point and are starting to downsize in anticipation. My grandfather has SO MUCH duplication of things, tucked away here and there. I thought his memory issues were recent but considering how many duplicates he has, unopened, I am wondering if it has been going on for a while now and he keeps forgetting if he's already gotten something. I know it can't be just from stocking up when things are on sale, because he'll save receipts and the dates are all different. Also, apparently when he was younger he used to tie flies for fishing. I never knew this, but he kept all the gear for it, carefully packed away from their last move and never pulled out again. I've been looking at it and thinking that if you did it on thin metal tubes instead of hooks, you could have some really neat hand-done beads. Maybe I'll ask him to teach me how to do it.
(or even if you did it on wire insulation instead of metal tubing. That'd be easier to work with anyhow, and wouldn't risk slipping off the ends, and would be easier to cut)
