Hahaha, I would have said sweet, because for the longest time sweet popcorn was the only kind I knew :D

I would also say sweet :D
Let me google that quickly
(no, I shouldn't work on my paper, nooooo :D )
"Cretors's machine popped corn in a mixture of one-third clarified butter, two-thirds lard, and salt." - that was the first popcorn machine invented in 1885.
Other than that there is no citation of the first popcorn taste :D

Yea, buttery-salty :D I wouldn't have guessed that. Although... Sugar was more expensive, so it could have been obvious

My train of thought was: what do I think about adding to food when it's tasteless? Usually it's salt. Unless it's a drink xD

I don't usually eat popcorn in the first place, but my go to is butter! Like, a lot of butter.

Depends :D If it's sweet food I would add sugar, if not then salt. But popcorn is neutral I guess, so it makes sense that you can either :D

I like it sour and spicy. Squeeze some lime juice on the popcorn and sprinkle with cayenne or chili pepper.

I read that in Mexico and Brazil they also like it spicy. For me it sounds.. a little gross :D
