We just had our house unit test today in Japanese! :D I'm pretty sure I did fine. :)

On our first katakana quiz though, I switched "u" with "ra". *headdesk*

Happy Friday the 13th! :)

Thanks guys! :)

I like Hiragana better. 'Cause is looks cooler. =3= (as in more calligraphy like) I noticed the smiley face thing too! >:D

Speaking of calligraphy... We were doing Chinese calligraphy and as I was practicing, I noticed that one of my words looked kind of like a "ki". So then every so often, I would sneak in a Hiragana letter. XD I don't think the teacher minded.

Happy Valentines Day, everyone! Since we've hit the holiday, would you guys like to talk about what you about Japan in relations to Valentines?

I know it's the time of year where girls would make their own chocolates (or buy them in stores) and give it to the boys they like; not only that, but they also have to give "obligatory" chocolates to men that they know too, like bosses, sons, and friends. Boys really look forward to this day (well, it's candy, who wouldn't like it?) and I've noticed that many of them in manga tend to measure their popularity by the amount of chocolate they get.

As a lot of it is homemade chocolate, a joke among some manga is that sometimes they find hair in the chocolates. :X

Boys don't really give out chocolates on Japan during Valentines, but they do return the favor one month later (March 14) on a holiday called White Day. On White Day, boys are said to give the girl who gave them chocolate something white, with certain gifts holding specific meanings. Common gifts are cookies, candies, white chocolate, marshmallows, jewelry, lingerie, and stuffed animals. Here are some meanings I've picked up online:

* Handkerchief - If a man gives a woman a handkerchief for White Day, he is telling her that he doesn't love her. The handkerchief is meant to be used by the woman to wipe her tears.
* Cookies - The man just wants to be friends with the woman.
* Marshmallows - The man likes the woman, and would like to date her.
* Candy - The man is already involved in a relationship with another woman. (I'm not sure how accurate this one is).

Do you guys know anything else about how Valentines Day and White Day are celebrated in Japan? If so, I'd like to hear more about it.

I felt kinda bad at first today because I met up with my Ringo-chan this evening, but picked her up empty-handed. I didn't get out much this week due to the fact that LA weather got ridiculously cold and we had on and off rain (I hate going out in the rain), but really, it was no excuse not to buy her something. :X

However, she did get me some chocolates (Meiji chocolate and strawberry ones), and as we both pretty much are fans of the Japanese culture, I'm gonna definitely make it up to her on White Day. X3 I'm gonna make our OCs out of marshmallows, chocolate, and food coloring. :X
