I prefer doorbells or door knockers.. I just don't knock that hard or loud with my hand

Yes... plus it's fun to customize them, which you can't do if it's just a person knocking by hand....
Gates are another fun one. I like wandering around and looking at unique gates people have come up with.

We have no gate

Is that a loss, though? I mean, did you want one?
I suppose if you wanted one, you could always take a cupboard and do the doors up like miniature gates...

Eh, to me a gate tends to come off as pretentious
"Look at me I have too much money so I made an overly fancy gate"

Gates aren't that expensive compared to the crazy amounts people spend on phones and laptops and computers and televisions and games, and they last a lot longer. So I don't tend to think that. I'm more likely to think about peoples' having lots of spending money when I see them with those portable phones which are mini-computers.

To be fair, in this day and age a mobile is a kind of requirement, especially a smart phone.
If you can only juust afford the phone, and the phone's bill and it's your internet and you are job searching, it's something that's a life saver. You can do lots of things on it then including access your emails.
I'm lucky Peter likes the internet as much as me and that we have home internet and don't have to rely on our phones for it.
Although australia's internet sucks majorly. But if my phone were to be broken, I'd be kinda screwed. I need it when I'm out, just in case I hear back about a job as they're more likely to call my mobile than house phone.

Mmm, I hear people talk about cars that way too sometimes. I still can't get over thinking of them as luxury items, though.
