I think the US mass shootings are just as horrible as the paris riots

The connection being the senseless violence/tragedy of it rather than anything that actually would make a pattern? Yes, could be...

There have been "riots" in the states in the past handful of years
It's in quotes cuz it "peaceful protest with some dickbags deciding to break into places and steal stuff" is more accurate but that isn't as drama-worthy

It's overwhelming sometimes, seeing all the horrible stuff going on in the world.

aaaah, I didn't mean to do that!
Okay quick let's change the subject!
Uhhhh my defaults are books, food, and crafts. Um. Let's try something different just for the kicks and grins (or however that saying goes).
Um.
Um.
urban legends? Okay yeah that's fun to talk about.
What are some of the local urban legends out your way? (Or just your favorites even if they aren't local?)

I like books and urban legends.
An urban legend here in BC, Canada is that of the elusive Sasquatch ... "a hairy, upright-walking, ape-like creature that dwells in the wilderness and leaves footprints. It is strongly associated with the Pacific Northwest, and individuals claim to see the creature across North America."

Have you ever met someone who says they've seen one?

Not in person, no.

Oh well, maybe you will someday. It would be fun to talk to go on a hike with sasquatch-spotters. I wouldn't want to do it often (I like solitary hikes) but at least once, just to enjoy the enthusiasm.
I think my favorite local urban legend here is about the weird waterline drain cover thing, over in the town proper, that is mostly silent but always burbles at midnight and noon and about two hours before a storm. Naturally people say it's inhabited by a spirit, and the person who lives in the house just opposite it calls it Harley, and says if you toss gum into it, it will curse you, and if you sing to it, it will bless you. When you walk by sometimes you can see him outside singing into the drain.
