No they shouldn't.

That's the problem with systems based on a minimum income.
If you have some other income they don't help you anymore (or provide less help) because they say you already reached that minimum treshold.
But if they do that, then what's the point in saving up or having an insurance (which you mom paid for, don't you forget it) or anything at all?

That's why I believe there should be an universal basic income.

but they look into this crap. all they gotta do is put mom's SSI number into the system and they can see that she had life insurances =/

I think you did the right thing. Being honest is good. And it will save you trouble on the long run.
If you had hidden it, you would be wondering about it and scared that you might be caught.

At least you know that once you run out of that money you'll be eligible for SSI, right?

thing is, it takes 3-6 months for them to process the case, then if it goes to the courts its a year and half. so basically 2 years..

So If they deny me SSI because of the insurances, I'll be out of money by the time I can try again which means I'll be homeless at that point >A<

Then let's hope they don't deny it!
When are they gonna tell you? (Or is it one of those things when you never know when you are getting the call?)
