Ah... what kind of work does he do, if you don't mind?

My EDS makes going to a chiropractor dangerous. A lot of them don't know how to treat someone like me so they can cause a lot of damage.
I wish I could afford regular physical therapy. It's so helpful.

I had to look up what EDS was, and it is making me entirely rethink this set of penny dreadfuls I read which were written back in the WWI period. A sort of super-spy who had really really elastic skin and he could stretch it into a new disguise with discrete glue, and I thought "this has to be the earliest superhero novel" but now I'm thinking it was probably that the author knew someone with EDS and decided it'd make a good book....
If you get a PT person to give you exercises can you do them on your own or are they usually the kind which needs a spotter/second person?

Yes
Stuff you can do on your own they encourage, but they're nearby. If you can't, they're helping. Some exercises have bars to hold onto
Some things of PT, in my experience, does require a second person, like one where I had a resistance band around my waist and walked as she walked around my, pulling to check my balance

A lot of stuff I can do myself at home, but I don't have room to do it. Also if something decides to dislocate at an inopportune time then I'm going down, which can cause more dislocations. Fun fun.

Ah, that's no good! So you pretty much need a spotter for safety. Well, everyone should have a spotter for safety, but the risks are higher for you, if I'm understanding right? That's frustrating! I should really look into this stuff more; a bunch of the Elders would probably be a lot healthier if I were able to encourage them to exercise more in a safe manner. I just don't know enough right now.

Yeah, it's very difficult exercising.
About the only thing that's safe for me to do by myself is swim. And there aren't a whole lot of places to choose from. And they all cost money. So sad.
Maybe you could do yoga? I hear that that's pretty low impact.

I'd have to be able to teach the Elders if I want them to benefit, and I'm a little frustrated by the thought that as long as it takes me to learn something, they might be gone by the time I'm ready to teach them & spot them. Awful thought. I'm not a very coordinated person, though, and they're pretty fragile so I'd have to actually know what I was doing to know where problems might come up for them and what to do about it... we don't exactly have money to have someone out, either. Hrm. Well, we'll just muddle through without, just like you're doing, just like we've always done.
