We eat corned beef with sauerkraut for New Years. I don't eat the sauerkraut cuz it's gross.
We also put a dime in the pot and whoever gets it has good luck for the year. But since I don't eat the sauerkraut I never get the dime. Sadness.

Yay for donuts and holiday food!

I watch a vegan girl on youtubes: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCuySkU ... w61waqFsRg

She often has vegan recipes on there that look pretty easy. I'm not vegan at all but I'd be totally willing to try some of them.

I like Sauerkraut - it's not a specific holiday food for me though.
We did have it for christmas one or two years ago though, in a nice variation, cooked with a bit of cream and peeled tomato cubes. It gets milder if you add cream, so maybe that's something for those of you who find the taste too sharp and sour.

Interesting. I'll have to try that. Well if someone else makes it for me. I wouldn't want to buy the ingredients and end up wasting them.

Yeah, I completely understand that. Unless your husband really likes it and would eat it all if you end up not liking it, I wouldn't try cooking it either, if I was you.
I was actually quite surprised how nicely the recipe worked out, most of the time when we have sauerkraut we heat it up with a little cream now.

I don't think he likes it either. We like a lot of the same food.
Though there are some exceptions.

That's practical ;)
My boyfriend and I have a lot of things that only one of us likes, so we often have to compromise. We also have quite a few things we both really like though, so it works out usually.

Well I'm very picky about food.
Thankfully he's not. He likes just about anything. So even if I get something I don't like then I give it to him. Yay!

Hehe, we're the opposite :D
He's really picky, he has problems with the consistency of a lot of food. All meat except poultry and minced meat for example. Which is sad, since I love steak. But we compromise by having barbecues in summer, where I get my steak and he can have some marinated chicken or something.
The thing I'm most picky about that he likes is probably bell peppers. Sometimes we compromise on that by throwing in a little bit of bell pepper and also mushrooms (which he is not overly fond of) in a dish. So we both have something we really like and don't get often in there and something we're not fond of. It works surprisingly well.
We also sometimes just do stuffed vegetables, a bell pepper for him and a small aubergine for me (which he also doesn't want to eat very often) - so we're both happy. Only problem with that is that an aubergine is mostly too much for me alone, but since he doesn't dislike them too much, we can still share the leftovers.

Well, whatever, that was probably not terribly interesting to read now :D

On another note, light, I wanted to thank you for the advice you gave me in the beneficience thread. I couldn't keep up with the thread the last days, so I never managed to post another answer there... But thank you, talking to you really helped me a lot :) <3

It sucks being picky.
A lot of the things that I don't like I can't eat. Like mushrooms. They make me completely gag. It's not good at all.

A lot of the time we just make different things. Or at least we just pick things we both like.

I like red bell peppers and yellow, but not really green.

No worries. It's nice. I like learning more about other people.

You're welcome dear. I'm glad it helped. Let me know if you need any more advice. :qh:

I believe that. It's really different for me, if I don't like something, most of the time I can still eat it, it's just not very pleasant. It took me a lot of time to understand that my boyfriend has a very different experience with food and he actually feels severe disgust when he eats something of the wrong consistency. Before we talked that out, I would get annoyed at him for his pickyness a lot more. I think I've gotten better at that now that I understand it.
I only get annoyed now when he's not in the mood for anything that he usually eats. That happens a lot. I've resorted to just saying then he needs to come up with an idea what to eat when he rejects a few of my proposals that are things we usually eats but he just doesn't want right now.

I hate green bell peppers, we mostly use orange ones, I like those best. Also the really light greenish/white ones, they're fine too, really mild. I like to put them in asian style dishes. That is actually nice (and I still get mushrooms for that, which might be part of why it's so nice ;)). After that come yellow ones, and with a bigger gap red ones. We rarely ever use those, also because if there's tomato in the dish, another colour just looks better and I don't like it if I don't know if the piece of food will be pepper or tomato before I bite into it. That's just irritating.

Thank you :) I'll let you know for sure!
