I'm not too sure read bean paste is normal, it is becoming more popular but I wouldn't say normal. Or at least in France.
Like, my favorite donut ever is raspberry jam filling and I haven't been able to find any for years. I was lucky a few years back Starbucks had a Halloween limited one and I binged, but since then nothing.

You're thinking about takoyaki and yep that's Japanese street food.

Yes! Thank you! I've been trying to remember what it was called so I could look for recipes or something because I've been missing it for ages now.

When I was younger my family would make donuts once a year, the jam-filled kind (not the ones where you pipe in lots of jam afterwards, but the ones where you put a scant tea spoon in the middle and then cook them that way so the jam explodes everywhere inside it and you always end up eating them hot and burning your mouth but it's worth it), but I don't remember if we ever used raspberry jam. It's a pain to strain out all the seeds so we didn't make raspberry jam very often.

Mm, red bean paste XD I used to go all the time to Chinatown before the pandemic. I miss red bean paste buns so much.

About NaNo, I realised something funny: I write about 80 to 100k words every month as writing is my job - and this month is the first in the year when I'm not because I'm now on maternity leave XD So I guess I'm doing reverse NaNo.

Amura, with all the posts you're writing on there I wouldn't be surprised if it totaled to quite a lot. You do write a lot already.

@jacobgrey: Oh my, I just remembered the existence of the Chinese version of red bean paste donuts. (OK not donuts but I can't remember the name in English.)
And I haven't been in Chinatown in forever.

I live in such a small place right now that there's no Chinatown. But the city isn't hugely far away and it has a great one!

I actually started a Nanowrimo poems thread here, but haven't done very well so far at filling it yet, ha ha ha. Hmmm, we'll see what I manage!

It would actually be helpful if people were to post there with a poem prompt for me. A subject, or a word, or a concept, or whatever. Spoiled for choice makes it harder and prompts definitely help!

Well, technically Chinatown is more or less an hour away and not even in the same prefecture so ... XD
We do have an "ethnic" market in the neighborhood though. I wouldn't buy meat there unless I want something very specific but it's useful for spices and homemade spicy hot pots ^^

As for prompts, have a few from what's around me right now:
- writing
- morning
- TV
- basil (ok, herbs if you want)
- water
- coffee

Yessss, this is helpful! I already have the "morning" one done, now I'll do the rest.

Walnut-cranberry is definitely normal (and yummy!), as is chili chocolate (not so yummy, I'm not a fan of spicy/hot stuff, regardless of what it's in). Anything with jam filling is pretty standard, but I've never had plum jam (as filling or otherwise), though I bet it's super good!
Kuuki wrote:That being said the most popular donut filling in Japan is red bean paste so I might be more used to unusual flavors.
Red bean paaaaaste. Love that stuff. Lotus filling too. (Though I've never had either in donuts, lmao.)
Kuuki wrote:You're thinking about takoyaki and yep that's Japanese street food.
And please don't remind me of takoyaki, you'll make me want to order out for some. :(

You've just made me realize this, but it's probably the case for me as well? Not as many words as you, but I'm a translator, writing is all I do all day every day! But does translation qualify, lmao.

A poem for each season. :)
