It sounds like a modern thunderbox to me. (hole in ground toilet, common name for it here in Australia).

Is it one with a lever beside it? I hate those ones..make loud noises.

Lol, that toilet looks weird XD I'm European never saw a toilet like that, looks like taken out from some futuristic, super modern thing XD But there are many forms of toilets, but they are essentially still the same you know It's still a ceramic seat with a hole in it and water inside

Maybe the manufacturer took some liberties with a traditional toilet design. I mean, it's what inside that counts (lol). I guess the only big thing that's different that I can see if it lacks the tank with water at the top. Maybe my toilet is just really old now that I think about it.

You can get toilets where the cistern is behind the wall. Have seen that on the block

Oh, didn't know it was called a cistern and that's where they keep it in the shopping centre. I can't see that happening in a home though. Well, at least in my home. I feel like it'll be terribly difficult to access for plumbing requirements.

Tbh having seen it on the block tv show, I pondered repairs too.

Yeah, there are ones with the "cistern" hidden in the wall. Or the toilet doesn't stand on its own, but kind of hangs on the wall. Or other stuff like that. It's all a matter of design, but they still work the same, so they aren't really weird at all XD
The Japanese toilets are weird I've heard, too many buttons and everything written in Japanese xD
