I had that conversation with my mother once when she was debating on whether she should make something widely available or not.

And she was also worried about edge-case dangerous lunatics, but she was thinking, well, the odds of that happening are pretty low, right? Because first off how many people are really going to see it to begin with? And second the chances of them being stalker-types or whatever are lower than the chances of getting hit by lightning, right?

And I went: Yes, but this is the way statistics work; your individual chances of getting hit by lightning might be really slim, but there's so many people out there in the world that around 2000 people get hit by lightning every year; not only does it actually still happen but it happens fairly often!
So your chances of getting a murderous-fan-rage-weirdo might be only, say, one in ten million.
But if you get (un?)lucky enough that what you produce becomes a meme or a surprise bestseller....
Those numbers are routinely reached.

Which means you should definitely have a plan in place to deal with that before you risk it.

These days, the people who try to be influencers or whatever the modern term for fame-chasers is.... I understand them less and less!

It's one thing when it was a long time ago, when world-wide fame meant maybe a modern small town's worth of people had heard of you (Think about the human population of Gilgamesh's time, right?), but these days... these days as far as my own perspective is concerned, the only ones who would risk it are either downright strange themselves, or are remarkably short-sighted! (Colour me cynical)

They do say ignorance is bliss...

I don't care much for influences... seems like drama follows them around constantly. And they bad mouth people because they think its cool.. disrespect other's cultures for views. =/

I use to follow the Anime Man because he didn't judge the anime people watched and honestly reviewed anime with out this... elitist attitude... he got popular, and it's now all elitist attitude and hentai =/ SOMETIMES he'll do some sort of interview that is interesting but the way he talks down about certain genre's and the people who enjoy those types of shows... =3= he reminds me of those influencers that bully others now.

But in general rule, you can meet lunatics anywhere.
Still you gotta go grocery shopping, and you need a job, etc. So you may find them even if you don't become famous.

I guess we all have healthy egos, lol; we don't need affirmation from anyone else to justify our existence in the world.

True, though -you MIGHT find them anywhere. You just increase your chances exponentially if you become famous, because you exponentially increase your exposure to random people....

I tend to ignore unpolite or simply unreasonable criticism.
Never saw one about art, but I've seen it when checking hotel reviews.
People complaining about not being treated like gods, and being absolutely rude in their comments. I just don't trust such comments.

When it comes to writing. Not only do you need to worry about flames. You also gotta worry about thieves >A<

My favorite fanfiction writer, took their stuff down off ever fanfic platform and went private. Only gave out certain fanfics that were popular with thieves, once in a blue moon. WITH the promise to not posted elsewhere. That it's kept for your own personal usage.


If one uses a pen name, should they copywrite that penname so no one can pretend to be them?
