Scales are used because they are a symbol of balance.
Maybe you can think of a different symbol which also signifies balance...
Not that any came to my mind yet ^^;

I know, that's the whole problem xD
It HAS to involve scales.
I dunno it just feels like the other signs have more wiggle room, you know?
But I love my sign. It represents me so perfectly.
I used to hate that my element was air too.
It sounded so boring.
I always felt drawn to fire.
I LOVE fire and I think the element matches me perfectly.
Someone pointed out that air is great because other elements can't exist without air.
So I started liking my element xD

No, no, I mean when you talked about the elements that one person could be ANY element.
But apparently it's your sign's element, isn't it?
Every Piscis is Water and every Libra is Air and so on.
My first thought was that I was Piscis, but within the Piscis there could be all the element option. So some people would be Fire Piscis and others Earth Piscis.
A nuance to the signes.
I think the Chinese signs do work like that.
I'm a Gold Monkey but the next Monkey year it will be a different element.
