Ahahaha. Seems I'm useless. I was in London yesterday and kind of generally busy. Anyway, I've replies. I don't think a dictionary could have helped. It would have been nice to see what was on the other side of the tanzaku.

Hey @Vineda as I said above, it's pretty alright and do not worry too much about it :) I know you did your best to help me out on that "Tanzaku" thingy and thank you hehe. I was just really curious to know what was written on it and as a non-native Japanese speaker, it's quite complicated on my part ^_^
@Jessicat, Hello it's nice to see you and thanks a lot for your response. I really thought it was some sort of a charm :)
Speaking of Tanzaku, when does Tanabata usually being celebrated? I saw several dates on wikipedia, there's July and August.
@Urban Myth, hello! how are you?
@Mikael, I forgot to answer your last question. Well, its random actually. We usually chat to any anime/video game genres. Just feel free to bring up any topic you like :)

If I'm not mistaken, Tanabata is celebrated according to the regional belief on the 7th of July or the 7th of August. Since the calender is different now in comparison to the historical calender used in Japan. So although the 7th of the 7th month seems like it should be in July, it's actually closer to August so depending on the region they either celebrate in July or in August... At least that's what our professor told us when we asked her about different festivals...
Sorry I seem to be answering your questions instead of Jessicat...

Tanabata is generally celebrated on the 7th of July. The only reason there are problems with the dating is that it used to be celebrated on the 7th of July in the lunar calendar, which corresponds to somewhere between the 15th and 20th of August in the Gregorian calendar. Some people celebrate it by the old calendar, and it makes more sense in termns of star movements that way, but for the most part it's simply easier to remember on the new calendar.
Urban Myth - Thank you! I find it really hard to use this skin because the eyes don't stand out so well, but I love the combination with this yellow :3
Vineda - Preeetty busy. I'm working on children's book illustrations, and a friend is visiting from Japan with her 5 year old (who is very sweet and lovely, thankfully)... I should also be writing my PhD thesis! >.<

That sounds lovely, thank gods it's a sweet five year old then. Most can be QUITE a handful at that age...
Oooh! I love children's books... will you show us a preview if you can/are allowed? And good luck on the writing of the Phd thesis.... I hope you still have enough time left?

I have a year left of my PhD, so I'm well on track, but I really like to be ahead.
I can't currently show you the book I'm working on but you can see the other books I've illustrated here

They're quite different from what I imagined, but yeah. I get that. A job is a job indeed! It's still impressive that you can draw that even if it's not really your taste!

@Vin: Thanks, but I'm cool with talking about whatever everyone else is talking about, provided that I can relate. XD Nah, none of the hangouts I've ever been to are strict on their topics either, theme or no theme.
@Fiel: Sounds good.
@Jessicat: Ah, you're an illustrator? That's pretty neat!
What is your taste in drawing?
