I had an on and off allowance
Sometimes it was just handed to me
Sometimes I had to earn it
But that was way back in, oh, early elementary school so I don't remember much about it
After that I had my parents buy everything

That's nice.
I'm always jealous of people whom's parent/s actually loved them.
My mom loved my brother and sister but I was always treated like a burden and given absolutely no affection unless I was literally dying. And then only in front of other people.
I feel like an allowance is a good thing to give kids. Like a base allowance of like 5 bucks a week with the option of doing extra chores to get more? Good stuff.

We all got an allowance as kids. We had chores to do to get it, too. I think my parents wanted us to learn how to manage money. Not sure it worked that well to be honest.

When I was 15 I started getting veteran's benefits. I got 800ish a month. My mom took 500 for 'rent' and I had to buy the rest of my needs. So I paid for all my school supplies, food, health products. All the things. Soooo I know how to budget.

Hey 100 pages
"Rent" as in "I'm taking this from you to make my life better" I take it
Please tell me you've moved out so she can't mooch off of you anymore

Yeah, basically. That was fun.
I don't live with her anymore. I moved out when I was 20. Ain't ever going back. I'd rather be homeless than live with that woman.

I'm so sorry to hear that you didn't have the family life you deserved. I can understand how you not want to live/have anything to do with that woman.
I pay 350€ for rent, and share groceries and bills. But per choice, so that is not the same as having it taken. :}

It's alright.
Now I'm married and I live with my husband.
When I have income coming in we split the bills. Unfortunately I have no income currently. So hubs be stuck with the burden.
