It's actually called "A Song of Ice and Fire", but anyway... I've read the whole series so far. :mctongue: I'm definitely a fan. Not the sort of fantasy geared toward the overly idyllic types who love happy endings, but that's what I enjoy about it.

I own the first 4, but I have yet to start reading them. I always go on a book buying binge and then forget about the ones I bought while I read hoards of library books.

Actually, I bought them without even knowing the plot line, it seemed like they where popular. May I have a summary?

In the midst of reading the first one and really REALLY loving it!

@Steelkitty:

Long ago, in a time forgotten, a preternatural event threw the seasons out of balance. In a land where summers can last decades and winters a lifetime, trouble is brewing. The cold is returning, and in the frozen wastes to the north of Winterfell, sinister and supernatural forces are massing beyond the kingdom’s protective Wall. At the center of the conflict lie the Starks of Winterfell, a family as harsh and unyielding as the land they were born to. Sweeping from a land of brutal cold to a distant summertime kingdom of epicurean plenty, here is a tale of lords and ladies, soldiers and sorcerers, assassins and bastards, who come together in a time of grim omens.

Here an enigmatic band of warriors bear swords of no human metal; a tribe of fierce wildlings carry men off into madness; a cruel young dragon prince barters his sister to win back his throne; and a determined woman undertakes the most treacherous of journeys. Amid plots and counterplots, tragedy and betrayal, victory and terror, the fate of the Starks, their allies, and their enemies hangs perilously in the balance, as each endeavors to win that deadliest of conflicts: the game of thrones.

I've read all of the books out so far, and love them. It definitely keeps me on my toes since Martin isn't afraid to kill anyone. Characters I liked at the start of the series I've gotten fed up with, and characters I disliked have become favorites. I'm kind of frustrated with some of the cliffhanger endings considering how long Martin takes to write the books. I just really hope he doesn't die before he finishes the series. D:

Let's show 'em all how it's done. Let's do it all imperfectly.

I want to read the series...I think. It looks really interesting and really daunting at the same time. It takes good writing to get me into sci-fi/fantasy. Jacqueline Carey was the last to do it for me...but I really think Martin could be good for me, too.

I've heard they're rough - violence wise, sexuality, et cetera. The usual taboos; doesn't really bother me. My uncle, though, says he nearly gave up on the series because it is so violent.

I got ahold of the graphic novel, since I've heard there's a frightening number of characters, and I'm a visual person, so pictures help me. I'm going to Branson this week and I think I'll take it with me - I'll probably pick up the first book sometime after April 15th. Finances and all that, you know?

People love to joke about Martin's excessive details with scenes involving food or sex :mclaugh:
I wonder what Freud would say.

Not yet, but I really really want to read it or at least watch the series.
"mchappy"

@ Poll: I just call it Game of Thrones, it sounds much better in my opinion.
