Moi - Hallo, friend!
Yes, definitely. LGBTQIA+. The A stands for Asexual. I is for Intersex.
There are 'straight' LGBT+ people. LGBT is anyone who isn't heterosexual and/or cis gendered.

Natsuyuki - Hey, friend!
How's it going?

KH just came in to chat and fell into the discourse. lol. -hugs-

Our society needs to get away from the heteronormative standards for relationships /o/ all relationships are valid, all sexes are valid, no relationship or sex is just as valid :mccool:

Heyo Deb! I'm doing really good atm /o/ Just got through a class that I was super stressed over, it went super smoothly which was a great surprise /D;;;

Yes! I am so tired of all the heteronormative bullshit. It's exhausting.
I'm also tired of all the white washing and the patriarchy as well.

I'm glad you're doing well. What was the class?

As a POC the whitewashing is definitely exhausting, I always get really uncomfortable when white people talk about "Reverse Racism" and claim that nowadays white people are discriminated just as much as other races had been in the past... which is just... not true D:

The class I was tutoring a student in this creative psychology project. We got a really good rough draft going so we're excited :D

You're correct. White people got it real good compared to POC.
It's ridiculous what some white people say. I can't deal with it.

I watch some documentaries about food and culture and almost always they're like oh yeah, these people were doing great. Until the fuckin white people came! Always fucking shit up.

Creative psychology sounds like a fascinating subject.
I'm glad y'all managed a rough draft!

Right? Like I can understand the frustration sometimes because nowadays it can seem like being politically correct means always feeling apologetic for things you didn't do personally, but POC also didn't ask to still suffer prejudice every single day just because history wasn't on their side. It's the same idea really, we're all living the consequences of historical events :mcsweat:

Same deal with the straight/LGBTQ+ discourse really.
Privilege is a deep deep concept that hurts to dig at.

Yeah it was fun! The student is super creative and it was an enjoyable time /o/

It's because they're used to getting their way and don't like it when people point out the realities of the world.

I am extremely white. I know I didn't have part in the way the system is set up to make things easier for white people. But I still benefit from it. And I feel like it's important to acknowledge that even though in all the other ways I am unprivileged.

Have you taken the course yourself?

It's all very intersectional isn't it. You can be privileged in one aspect and vulnerable in another, they don't have to clash, but they'll influence each other.

I can't speak for others, but for myself, I know that I'm privileged in being able-bodied, but will experience setbacks due to being POC in a white society. In essence, I have to use my privilege to work much much harder to get to a good position in life.

This student isn't doing a particular course, it's more of an extracurricular project to help her uni applications later on (the competition is SO fierce nowadays).
I've minored in psychology in uni, and have taught AP psyc for a few years now though :)

KH - You were like, I have been summoned to defend my people! lol.

Yes. There are a lot of ways it intersects. It's very important to at least try to see all the differences and things like that.

So I think it's like this:
Race, disability status, age, sexuality, gender, sex, education level, and economic level.
There are probably more but those are the biggest ones.

So for myself, I'm white, young ish, and have some college education. But the rest are not great.

That's interesting. I do wonder how much more helpful those big named colleges are compared to the smaller ones. Like are you more likely to succeed? I sure hope so, with that huge price hike they do.
