It depends on many factors from what I've seen. The quality of education will differ due to what each school is good at, the profs you happen to get, and many things. However, big universities do provide you with better networks and platforms. And the fact that it takes a lot more to get in and graduate is a proof of ability in itself, so it looks better on resumes. For example, among candidates with the same level of experience and education, the one from a more prestigious institution will be more likely to be picked.

I know that for me, I got hired really quickly in my work because they saw my uni and that was just it. And later, it helped me get more work too because it's a good promotion label in a way.

I do have mixed thoughts on the topic because these big unis can be pretty cutthroat and pricey. They certainly have their flaws, the system is far from perfect. But the benefits are very much there too. :mcheh:

Sorry for the long rant LOL, I'm a bit sensitive on this topic because I've spent a long time having people disparage uni degrees and being made to feel like I couldn't be totally proud of my education without disclaimers :mcsweat:

I'm sure that it does have some benefits, but I feel that the sheer amount of the price hike is the ridiculous part.

Like one college here is like 60k for a semester. But if you go to the local college it's only like 4k? Without books of course. Still expensive but much more affordable.

I think that education is very important. We will always need people that are educated in colleges and universities.

But a lot of people are not cut out for college and they're looked down on.

Trade schools are incredibly important too! We need electricians and woodworkers and all those things as well.

For sure, different people have different paths, society needs all aspects to function.

I just don't like it when people talk about uni education like it's a scam D:
As long as you work hard and make the most of it, the price isn't going to waste.

On the other hand I can only speak for my own experience in Canadian universities. I do know the US ones can have crazy prices. Mine was about 10k per year for domestic students.

See just 10k doesn't seem like a huge scam to me. It's pricey but not pay back for the rest of your life expensive.

How fancy was your college?

That's true XD 60k a semester is a fortune ...

Mine is one of the top 3 in Canada, so fairly good by Canadian standards lol I think. Internationally I think it ranks in the 30-40s range.

I didn't have the best experience in uni though, I worked my ass off and my mental health went to shit X.X got super majorly depressed one semester and it was bad...
Thankfully now I can feel like the pain paid off :mcheh:

Yeah, that's like quadruple minimum wage for a year. Impossible to pay for without taking out steep super predatory loans.

I think that a lot of people experience severe depression in college. My spouse had never struggled with it before then, but he got it really bad. And it's never gone away.

Do you still struggle with it?
I'm glad that the pain paid off! :qh:

Yeahhh it's not a good place for mental health.

I have good phases and bad phases. I feel like the episode in uni just really set a lot of things off, and like you say, never really gone away completely. Since graduating, my mental health had gone through a few rollercoasters :mcheh: right now I'm in therapy to slowly figure things out and avoid spiralling into a dark pit again :mcdead:

It's interesting though, that many people have that reaction for college.

I've always been depressed as long as I can remember.

I'm glad that you're in therapy to help.
It's good to get treatment.

College is an intense phase in life D:
Like, you're barely grown, but suddenly you're being treated like a full Adult with all the responsibilities on top of an incredible jump in schoolwork difficulty. Not to mention other factors like new place, living alone, being expected to Have A Plan For The Future... It's a lot of pressure all at once, it's no wonder most people's mental health ends up collapsing DDDD:

I hope your husband is doing better now too!

One day, you need permission to go to the bathroom
Next, your life must be planned and if you don't have a Firmly Set Plan, you're a failure

I don't get it either
