Well, I've done some research on it, based off of this guy on TikTok who asks people how much their rent is in Newyork. Artists there for the majority of the people he asked owned their own flats. Art is a respected career in NY, and it's not in Louisiana unless you go to New Orleans (and I don't live there).

Honestly I take any information gathered by TikTok with not just a grain but a whole pound of salt. :}

In this case, I found that it was a really interesting data collection. I really love the content because it opens my mind to the reality of the rental market in states outside of mine. Some of the apartments in Newyork are basically a person sized shoe box.

Which, due to my sister living in NYC about 15 years ago, I can sadly confirm is not new

Back in the 70's New York had massive apartments, and they not even gradually grew smaller. Think of Monica's apartment in Friends, that was a normal size in the 70's but by today's standards you need to have very big bucks to be allowed to be considered to rent one bedroom and luck out not having to share your bed. :}

And even then she could only afford it by claiming to be an 80-year-old woman with a rent lock, from what I've read

I enjoy seeing the artists own something based on their art sales though. Art is a job in NY, and as for where I live I'll be lucky to procure a job teaching art and barely being able to afford supplies for my students. There's a school in New Orleans that I'd really like to work in but hurricanes really rip through that city sometimes. I would need to have a place to stay that I owned in higher ground. My home city and where I live now is still trying to heal from the last hurricane that hit us. It was massive.

That 70 year old is her grandmother, and yeah.

I wish I could make a living from my art, right now I'm just lucky to have a place in my mom's house to call my atelier. :}

Well, I plan on becoming a licensed educator in my state, and I'll just keep an eye out for art jobs while I teach middle school literacy. I'm six classes away from graduating. :)
