The fight-or-flight response is a physiological reaction that occurs in response to a perceived harmful event, attack, or threat to survival.

I remember seeing someone say something along the lines of "People always talk about fight or flight, but everyone forgets 'freeze'. A lot of people just freeze up." online.

I often think of that comment when I get anxious.
I don't know which of the three I'd do.

I'm a really anxious person and I feel the need to get away from people any time I leave home. When I'm in public, I want to run away or disappear. I'm not good with people and crowds.

But I'm also a very aggressive person and I don't know if I'd actually stand my ground or not.
I'm a very non-confrontation person, but I will fight back if I get angry or think I need to.

Or maybe I'd completely freeze up. Too scared or confused to do either above.

Freezing scares me the most out of those options.
To not be able to move or completely register everything going on.
Nothing.

How do you usually react?

Look for me in the white forest
Hiding in a hollow tree (come find me)
I know you hear me,
I can taste it in your tears."

I don't know. I think I have the possibility of all three depending on the situation. But I think I am probably most likely to freeze up and wait for someone else to do something in most situations.

I think it really depends on the situation. I know I have had times I have been able to react controlled, and there have been others I have been at a loss of words. I always avoid confronting, because it does not get you anywhere.

Do you have a situation in mind?

Hmmm, I probably freeze a lot, but then I have a lot of inappropriate reactions (like adrenaline rush if someone walks too close behind me when I'm sitting down, even if I know them) so I've had to sort of try and train myself not to overreact.

I have something I call a flinch-or-faint response.
If it's something that takes longer than few minutes, I faint. I'm not ever exaggerating. I get increasingly more and more anxious and then I faint.
If it's something sudden, like someone touching me at night (like, innocent touching - someone wants to put a blanket over me or something) or walking too quietly and then "suddenly" appearing behind me, I jump out of my chair/bed/... again, not exaggerating.

I've been hit in the face a lot in my life, so I tend to have fast reflexes when something comes near me or I feel like it's going to hit me.
Most of the time I jump out of the way, but sometimes I slap at it.

That's why it makes it a bad decision to sneak up on me or jump out and scare me.
I'll either run or punch you xD

But I don't know if I was in actual danger.
I don't consider being hit by objects dangerous.
It's always a ball or candy or a something small.

If someone tried to slap me, my reaction would be to stop their hand, but not slap back. I'd probably push them back so that they are not close enough to slap again or try anything funny.

I usually freeze. Just for a very short time (a few seconds). My brain doesn't process information very quickly so I think that's what happens. My brain needs to process what's happened and what my response should be.

Flight is definitely my basic response. Not only am I not in good shape but I have a couple of degenerative conditions that would make it impossible for me to fight unless I carried a gun, which I have no desire to do.
