Talia
Mermaid
about 17yrs old

Technically she's a princess but she hates formalities. She's the younger sister of the heir to the throne after her father steps down, and often sneaks off to "study" the human world by watching them from a distance. Merfolk often saw humans as bad, or dangerous- among other things. Well, she's determined to prove them, and her father wrong.

And she has a week to do it.

          • Kael Mellack

            Human
            19
            Appearance: [+]

Kael has been living alone in an apartment he rented from his uncle since he graduated from high school. He moved to the province near the coast to avoid the hustle and bustle of the city and to finally breathe in some fresh air. He's been living a routine since then. Wake up, get ready, eat, go to class, eat, go home, eat, then sleep. Even when summer break arrived, he still followed the routine, minus the going to class part.

The neighborhood's been terribly silent with the lack of neighbors living in the buildings beside him because most had moved out of town for the summer. Every now and then, there would be the occasional laughing of playing children and the noise of tourists who pass by to get to the beaches.

He was content with the silence, but the days were starting to get boring. Perhaps a miracle would happen and someone would save him from his boredom?

On the surface there would be a terrible storm, starting close to the beach and extending out some. Dark clouds, heavy rains and high winds lasting for a couple of hours. This was due to one mermaid swimming away from home, early morning, after getting into a début with her father. The beach would be total mess.

That afternoon, a moving truck would be outside the apartment buildings. However she did it, Talia was now moving into the empty apartment. The movers helped with the little bit of furniture she had. A single couch, a small coffee table, and a twin bed set. The place already had a refrigerator and a stove. Once they left, Talia sat on the couch and looked around the small room, feeling content with herself.

Kael shivered as a stream of cold wind seeped in from beneath the door. A storm somehow formed over their area and the residents were caught unprepared for such an act of nature. The sounds of the news report from the television in his living room was drowned out by the sound of rain drops battering his windows and he couldn't care less about some festival mascot who won a 100-meter race when rainwater was trying to enter his home from the balcony. He'd run off to the cabinet to get some rugs to stuff the areas beneath the doors to try to prevent the water from pouring in. He'd also made a mental note on where to find buckets and mops, if he ever needed them.

Kael had been hoping for a break from his boring routine. But a storm wasn't what he was expecting. "Even a normal day is better than this. At least I'd get to go outside," he muttered under his breath, eyeing the rain coat by the rack. He'd thought about braving the wind and the rain to get to the dumpling shop on the next street over but later figured that it wasn't worth the risk of getting sick. If he were to get sick, then that'd mean more days of being locked indoors.

He sighed and picked up the novel he left open on the dining table and turned the TV off before heading back into his room. If he couldn't get his favorite dumplings, then he'd rather read a book in bed, or even better, maybe he'd fall asleep.

Kael woke up in the middle of the afternoon and looked out of the window above his head. The sky wasn't as dark and it seemed like the storm was dissipating. Sitting up on his bed, he yawned as he stretched his arms above his head, the book falling from his chest to his lap. He listened to the sounds of the storm when a distinct sound entered his ears. "A truck?" he murmured. He walked to the balcony, stopping just before the sliding doors, to take a look. Indeed, it was a truck. A moving truck, to be precise. A neighbor was moving in to the empty apartment beside his.

He looked inside the apartment through the window and spotted someone with light brown hair moving about. Someone moved into the neighborhood during the storm. How ... strange.

Talia sat on the small, light colored couch with her knees resting on her chin. She could still hear the thunder in the skies, even after the storm began to clear. She sighed and glanced out of the window cautiously. She couldn't act without reason.. How many humans lived around here? In truth, she really didn't even know where she was. Talia turned around and looked outside, making a mental note to get some curtains. The surface was amazing! Even while it rained, she found the world outside her window truly marvelous.

She rested her hands under her head and gazed out while watching the rain for a moment longer before getting up and exploring her new home. She didn't want to chance going outside yet.. But she had to figure some things out. How was she going to eat with no money? Should she even bother trying to get a job? Where was she going to start, in proving her father wrong?

Talia wandered around as she thought, trying to make a plan. When her plans seemed to crash, she plopped down on her mattress and stared up at the ceiling. What had she gotten herself into?

(( Hi. Sorry I haven't been able to reply. I was really busy preparing for the dentolympics the whole week. ))

Kael pondered for a while whether to say hi to his new neighbor or not. It was still raining outside and it'll be a long while before dinner time tumbled back into his life. He sighed. There was nothing edible in the kitchen except for a few packs of instant noodles and some ketchup. He would have to go outside for his dinner since the thought of more noodles was too unappetizing. A visit to the nearby restaurant it was, then. Then maybe a visit to his neighbor?

After wearing a hooded jacket and changing into his shoes, Kael left for the restaurant with an umbrella held over his head. He bought his dinner and two orders of dumplings for take out before heading back. He soon found himself standing in front of the neighbor's door, contemplating whether to knock or not.

(Don't worry about it ^~^ I'm pretty flexible with slow replies)

In the time she spent staring at the ceiling, Talia ended up falling asleep on her bed. It was soft and pretty relaxing, compared to where she usually slept. Inside the bottom part of a large clam, with a blanket and a small pillow. No telling how long she slept before she woke again, it wasn't long though.

Talia stretched and looked around for a moment before getting up. She headed into the main room, where she saw a boy standing outside through the window. Cautiously, she unlocked the door and slowly opened it just enough to see him clearly. "Hello.." She greeted politely.

"Uhh ... hi." Kael was surprised when the door suddenly opened before he even got to knock. He looked at his new neighbor who seemed to be hiding cautiously behind the door before letting out a slightly shy smile. "I'm Kael, your neighbor from next door. I know the weather's hardly fit for a warm welcome with it raining and all, but I brought these as a welcome to the neighborhood present kind of thing." He showed her the bag that contained the dumplings he just bought.

"Here." He moved the bag closer so that she could take it easily while his eyes shifted to look at the darkened skies. It looked like it was going to take a while before the rain stopped completely.

Talia stood quietly for the moment. Kael, was her neighbor..and he came over for the simple reason to greet her.. To welcome her to the neighborhood? She offered the boy a shy smile and she opened the door more. "I'm Talia..and thank you." She said calmly, as she took the offered bag. Whatever was inside, smelled really good. She casually stepped aside slightly. "Would you like to come in, neighbor?" She asked curiously.

Maybe this wouldn't be so hard after all.. Just maybe. She was doing her best to ignore the dark sky, while trying to act 'normal'. She also noticed that this boy, Kael, was possibly just as nervous as she was.

"Oh, uh, sure!" Kael smiled nervously as he handed the bag to Talia and stepped into the apartment and cast a quick prying glance at the walls and noticed the emptiness of it all. He stood awkwardly by the doorway, shifting from one foot to the other after leaving the umbrella outside. He pulled his hood down before rustling his slightly damp hair with his hand and then proceeded to take his glasses off to wipe them on his jacket but ended up subconsciously pouting when his actions only spread the droplets of rain over the glass.

"So ... what brings you to the neighborhood on this stormy day?" He asked after wearing his glasses, trying to break the ice.
