Dairy-free tips?

I'm supposed to be going dairy-free to ease my symptoms (I posted about it a few times elsewhere already). But even though I've been vegetarian my whole life, I'm actually finding it tricky to adjust. There are so many things I just didn't realise had milk in them, and now I do, I don't know what to do about it. We've switched to almond milk, vegan cheese, and vegan butter, but I could do with some tips anyone might have about items that don't contain milk or are good substitutes for things that do.

Did you try vegan recipes? If you try some you can learn more about food. That happened to me.
I can't really relate because I got no problem with dairy products. But I recommend to cook and bake vegan to learn more about this.
There are lupin products which, in my opinion, taste really good. Did you try this? I think they are tastier than soy products.

We already eat vegan quite often, but the problem is more with replacing foods that are already made. Like, I don't know how to find a good lunch that I can make quickly. I used to have mini pasta pots but they all come with powdered milk in the mixture.

It's tricky with food that is already made, though, at least here, the options for vegan "fast food" in supermarkets are getting bigger and bigger. You can get everything from vegan pizza to vegan

All I can think of is what I do when I am alone at home and too lazy to cook a proper meal just for myself: I just eat bread or bread rolls with stuff on it. It's fast to make and there are a couple of vegan options that you can put on the bread, like margarine, marmalade, guacamole, fried tofu and (at least here) also a ton of vegan cheese and meat substitutes and also a ton of vegan spreads.
I don't know how great the selection of things like these is where you live, but surely there mist be at least some?

There are also some cup noodles that are vegan, probably the closest substitute to your pasta pots? Though only very few are actually vegan (many often contain at least dried egg, if not milk) and I am not sure they are available where you live, but I did find some lists:

Or, if you feel very motivated, you could just pre-cook vegan pasta and freeze it in small portions.

It doesn't need to be egg-free as such, though I guess it's nicer that way ^^

It's tough, there are so many things I kind of assumed would be fine but it turns out they have milk haha. I'm used to stuff like "beef flavour" not having beef in at all, so I get a little thrown when stuff is "cheese flavour" and it actually does have a ton of cheese in no matter what.

I can do vegan spreads and cheeses, and meat substitutes (although weirdly I found that a lot of the subs we normally use also contain milk, which honestly makes no sense to me). I don't know if I should eat bread that often though >.> it's easy for me to put on weight that way.

I kind of don't really like ramen-style noodles... I'm such a picky eater, I don't know why I limit myself so much XD I could probably eat them if I didn't find any other options though.

When I had ulcers, I found oil to be an acceptable substitute for cooking and whatnot. Broccli is also my jam.

Ooh I love broccoli. Especially tenderstem broccoli. I might go get some to cook tonight, now you've brought it up :mcglee:

Pinterest is great for recipes. For quick meals, I eat a lot of vegetable tacos. I just throw any vegetables that taste good raw into a taco shell. I usually do spinach, tomato, mushroom, bell pepper, black olive, sometimes a little onion or radish. I eat a lot of beans, lettuce, and tomato with tortilla chips. I eat a lot of pasta with non-dairy butter and broccoli. Cold pasta salad with lots of tomato. Vegetable soup. Vegetable stew.

We're adjusting pretty well with dinner now I think. Other than just deliberately trying to use up stuff like garlic butter that doesn't usually get used often, we're managing vegan dinners every day. I'm doing okay with lunch but it's starting to get a bit boring already lol. Also I'm at a loss still when my usual supplies for making a wrap run out before we go shopping.

I also need to figure out some small snack options for when I'm out all day and need little bites now and then. Would be easier if I actually liked fruit or vegetables :mcdead:

Yes, that would be a lot easier. :mclaugh: I was reading through this thread and was about to reply saying how great fruits and vegetables are and that you should try incorporating them more into your diet, they're great for snacks. I've been vegan for a while now and what I can definitely tell you is that having less options available to eat made me a lot more open-minded when it comes to food. For example, I didn't used to like bananas very much but now i eat them all the time. Vegan cheeses and other alternatives tend to be a bit expensive but you've still got a lot of variety for meals (pasta, bread, rice, noodles, potatoes can all be bases for some yummy meals with vegetables and spices ).

I'm not sure how well you've adjusted now, it's been a while since you posted, but if you need any help or want to know specific meals that I eat etc.. i can help you out some more. :mchappy:
