Oh wow, your plans sound really cool Akili! I'd love to attend that event :D
Especially all the fun little competitions and learning opportunities sound lovely. I'd love to learn about fan language, since I'm a huge fan of fans! *sinks into a whole of shame for that pun*
Maybe I should do some research about it sometime...

I'd love to attend a masquerade one day, that's my fantasy scene for "maybe someday". But I have never heard about one being held anywhere close to me (otherwise I'd have definitely gone there already :D)...

What's that wonderful event you know of Popo, and where is it?

Ha ha, you mean my daydreams? >.<
I bet you could probably get a small study group together to learn and practice fan language with; that sort of thing is a lot easier to arrange than a whole ball.

I hope you get to attend a masquerade ball! And that you take lots of pictures and come show us!

I admit, I really love the "masquerade ball" trope in romance novels. It's hokey and corny and cliche and trite but I love it anyhow. There's just something about it.
(Especially the way Georgette Heyer does them)

Hahaha, yes, those :D

Ohhh, yes, I love masquerade balls in media, too. You just made me google Georgette Heyer and she sounds like an author for me to check out! Do you have any favourites you'd recommend from her? Preferably something with a masquerade in it of course ;)

Yessss!
The Grand Sophy.
These Old Shades (most reveiws/blurbs/summaries of this have MASSIVE spoilers so beware!)
The Devil's Cub (read that one after These Old Shades)
She has one actually called The Masqueraders but while I love it I don't remember if it even does have a masquerade ball in it.
Faro's Daughter
The Toll Gate

(aaaah, if I'm not careful I'll sit here and name all of them. :qhehe: )

Added to my wishlist :)
It'll probably be a while until I get my hands on them, though, since my pile of "books to read" is too big at the moment to justify buying more and now they've come probably too late to have a chance this christmas. But I'll get to them eventually :)

I found an English copy of Venetia (another Georgette Heyer novel) in a street fair while visiting family in Egypt, so you might find random used copies of her books just about anywhere if you keep an eye out. They've managed to make it a surprising number of places.

Wow, that is a fun coincidence! I'll definitely keep my eyes open for them :)

I like that you're planning in such detail :D One day I think you will hold these events. It's a good idea to keep the plans in mind until a time when they might be useful I always think these things come into our heads for a reason. We just don't know what the use will be until later.

I think it's also a great idea to take notes and put them down in a semi-thoughtout way, so if you ever do get to organizing them, you'll have them at hand and won't have to remember all the ideas you already came up with. :)

Venice, where else? ;P

its a yearly event that I saw advertised on FB a couple of times, I know people that have gone and loved it. You learn dances from 17-1800 period, and there's music and dinner provided in the price. Only thing you need to provide yourself is your costume/dress
