From The Book of Questions by Gregory Stock.
Question #5:
"If a new medicine were developed that would cure arthritis but cause a fatal reaction in 1 percent of those who took it, would you want it to be released to the public?"

I find it weird because there are medications and treatments that help people, but can cause bad reactions in others.
I don't know if it'd kill them, but it seems like a...normal risk.
I didn't die, but when my psychiatrist gave me a new medication, it reacted badly to my other medication and it made me not sleep in over 24 hours which greatly affected my mental stability.
When I told him what happened, he said he'd never heard of a reaction like that from that specific medication.
But the medication apparently helps a lot of other people.

Yeah, they have all those commercials for medications. And they're like, "Side effects include bloody poop, bleeding from your eyes, and death," lol. So I feel like maybe the 1% part is a bit high. But it's certainly not unheard of for medications to kill you as it is. So meh. I don't really care either way on this one.

1% is quite high.
But I'd still want it released, because adults should be able to make their OWN choices. So release it to the public so everyone can make their own choices about whether or not they want to take it.
Taking away someone else's choice like that?
No.
Just no.
You make it available, and you make it clear that it comes with a high risk, and you let people do what they each decide, for themselves, that they want to do.

Sure, release it. Why not?
