@wulfilalice: Do you physical own the books? I tend to set the next one I am planning to read to the side. Sometimes that motivates me because it gets me excited to knowing what I will be reading next. If I write a list I know I'll never stick to it.

I'm almost done with my 1/2 book for this year and then I'll be starting. There are 3 books I'm excited for that are coming out next year. Well technically, one came out last week, but waiting to purchase it in paperback, but the other two. Like I'm dreaming of these books so much. One comes out in November and it will be the last book for 2020 since I already know it will be over 1000 pages and I'm a slow reader so it'll take me a month or so if I read an hour here and there.

I am aiming for 15 books in 2020.

It worked in 2019, I hope it will work once more.
I may adjust it throughout the year as the first half of the year will be very busy (master thesis) and the second one might be a little better, depending on what I am going to do after finishing my studies.

(2017: aim was 25 (not finished), 2018: aim was 20 (not finished), 2019: aim was 15 (finished))

Must-read:

Currently reading (started in 2018):
- Howard Zinn - A People's History of the United States (English) Deadline: August

Currently reading (started in 2020):
- Stieg Larsson: Män som hatar kvinnor (started in May)
- Dodie Smith: I capture the castle (started in October)

Finished:
1) Sabine Both - Herzkribbeln im Gepäck (01 Feb 2020)
2) Geoffrey K. Pullum - Linguistics - why it matters (28 Mar 2020)
3) J.K. Rowling - Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets (Russian) (04 Apr 2020)
4) J. Paul. Henderson - Letzter Bus nach Coffeeville (Apr 2020)
5) Addison Cole - Read, write love at seaside (Seaside Summer Series, Book 1) (May)
6) Addison Cole - Dreaming at seaside (Seaside Summer Series, Book 2) (May)
7) Addison Cole - Hearts at seaside (Seaside Summer Series, Book 3) (May)
8) Zoe York - Love in a Snowstorm (series, reading book 2) (May)
9) Monica Murphy - More Than Friends (series, book 2) (June)
10) Monica Murphy - Just Friends (series, book 1) (June)
11) Monica Murphy - Forever (series, book 3) (July)
12) Sophie Love: Das Festival der Liebe (series, book 1) (August)
13) Holly Mortimer: Expectation (Murphy's Law Series, book 2) (August)
14) Sasa Stanisic: Herkunft (September)
15) Stephen King: Es (October)
16) Suzanne LaFleur: Love, Aubrey (October)

@Rubie: I mostly read ebooks. but I have something like your system, I have a shelf on goodreads with books I want to read next and make sure it never has more than 12 books. 12 books are still too much but at least it limits the choice somewhat XD looks like I'm like and just won't stick to lists

@jacobgrey: maybe I'll indeed switch to monthly plans, just to come back to them more often than with bimonthly ones. might help to keep things fresh by reassessing if I really still want to read that one book, and if no - remove it, and if yes - why haven't I yet

Oh I never thought of making a shelf in Goodreads. That would make keeping track of ebooks easy. At least you limit yourself. One time I had almost all of the books I wanted to read on one shelf which was about 20+ because I put some in front of the others. It got too ridiculous.

Going to start reading my first book for 2020 today or tomorrow, and even though I knew what I was planning to read I kind of want to not read it now. Guess I'll figure that out when I stare at it for a while.

Happy New Year!! :qstar:

I think I might start picking up a book instead of my phone before going to bed or after waking up. This should speed up my readings at least for a little bit.

That's what I plan on doing... although not in the mornings!
But read a little before bed/in the evenings should help move my goal along.

I have a small goal of six - I used to be an avid reader but lost touch do need to ease into it again rather than setting up an unreasonable goal.

Remember when I said I would start that big book ready for 2020? I didn't open a single page :mcheh: I guess my brain wanted a break from reading. Now I just have to remember to get back into it.

Hey guys what's up?

I think my challenge this year won't be much of a challenge, 1 book per month, so 12 books in total. It's more of a goal xD
I have many books to start with, although I wanted to try Children of Blood and Bone, but it's in English and I'm scared :mcargh: Haven't started yet, too, @jacob, so you're not alone XD But I guess your book is probably thicker ;P

It's REALLY thick hahaha.

But last night I couldn't sleep and ended up reading the last 2.5 hours I had on my Kindle book I was reading in December, so at least I have ticked off one book to start the year now!

right now my goodreads shelf has 14 books (did I say I was limiting it to 12? :mcheh: ) but even if it's not really helping to prioritize, at least adding and removing books from it forces me to make decisions and reading books from that shelf is sooo satisfying!

you can combine the two by uploading books to your phone :mcwink:

I think I finally know how to treat my goals for 2020. I've made a 15-book challenge on goodreads because that seems my average and have decided what to focus on for the beginning of the year, however long that beginning might take:

going to read this one together with a friend, mid february

'The Mermaid and Mrs. Hancock'
by Imogen Hermes Gowar

possibly this one too, because my library has it

'QualityLand'
by Marc-Uwe Kling

also about to finish a romance novel started last year when I needed a "fluffy" read

'Athena's Ordeal'
by Sue London

another book I kind of started last year, but a non-fiction book

'Anatomy of Criticism'
by Northrop Frye

and it would be nice to squeeze these two russian novels somewhere too

'Вдребезги' & '52 Гц'
Макс Фальк

still plan to finish this one. eventually

'Black Leopard, Red Wolf'
by Marlon James

and that's already 7 which was my final number last year, so let's see XD
I know I'm likely to finish buddy reads but not sure about the rest, they aren't really "plans" because anything can pop up and cross them. like "QualityLand" did today when I found out that it'd be released in russian this february and my friends would be able to read it too. who knows what else will be made a priority and instead of what
