I’d go straight for breaking the window if I thought I could manage it, lol. Which I couldn’t, so call the police/SPCA, because they should be alerted first so as not to waste time, then into the store to get some help/hopefully find the owner before their window gets busted, though they’d probably deserve it.

I have only left an animal in a car once: when we evacuated for Hurricane Michael. It was October, the cat was in her carrier, the car parked in the shade with the windows cracked, and only long enough to have a quick lunch with my sister-in-law.

@ArmyAunt, I guess if the animal didn't look too bad, breaking the window might be a last resort? But the problem is that you can't really tell how long an animal has been trapped, and if they can still last 10 seconds or 15 minutes.

And see, that's reasonable. Windows cracked, parked in the shade, and probably a cooler day if it was in October. And I'm guessing you probably weren't too far away, either?

It all depends on the circumstances, really.

I’d probably notify someone in the store and call the cops. No animal or human should be locked in a hot car like that.
