From The Book of Questions by Gregory Stock.

Question #77: Do you feel ill at ease going alone to either dinner or a movie? What about going on a vacation by yourself?

I rarely leave home and when I do, I prefer to be with someone.
If I have to go to an appointment alone, it's fine but as far as going anywhere else - I need someone with me.

I don't drive, so I can't really go anywhere alone.

I do. All of those. I've moved countries alone as well.

I've realized early on that my interests were a bit different than those of people around me. So I started with concerts and from then on expanded to restaurant, movies and even bars.

most of the time, if I'm going to the movies, it's by myself because my housemates aren't interested in what I'm going to see. Plus I live in a pretty rural area, so anything I'm interested in doing, I have to do by myself most of the time, so it's kind of my normal...

I'm totally ok eating or watching a movie outside by myself! It gives me the alone time I need sometimes lol But if I'm going someplace a few hours away or more... I'd rather be with someone or with a group... and at least one of them has to read maps well haha

Sans: I don't drive either but I still like to walk to places! As long as it's within 1 hr, give or take.

I enjoy going out by myself to a movie, but I'm also used to going to the theatre by myself. Movies don't feel that different in that regard. Dinner alone depends; if it's more of a fastfood/quick meal thing than no, but if it's more upscale it feels strange to go by myself. I feel like going to a restaurant is as much a social thing as it is a food thing.

I also have absolutely no problem going alone to a dinner. It's much more fun with someone else, but I do enjoy it going out alone from time to time.

As for a movie, I rarely go to a cinema. I think I've never been there just by myself. It would make me feel uncomfortable.

As for vacation, I'm ok with a short trip by myself. I can drive, so I'm self-sufficient in this regard. Though I wouldn't go for a longer trip or anywhere abroad - it would feel really weird to be all by myself and I would not feel safe.

dinner and movies, I'm not really doing that alone. But vacation, a day out etc. yeah sure. It's nicer when someone's there to share it though
