I find it funny that the best jobs for me would be working with animals or the dead.

I've mentioned before that I love talking to animals and plants and insects.
I don't see why people find it weird.
They don't understand me, but they're living things so I talk to them.
This therapist lady I talk to sometimes thought I did that because of my hallucinations.
I told my actual therapist about it and said "I talk to them because they're alive." and he agreed with me.

That being said, I love when I talk to an animal and they respond.
I know they don't understand me and it's just random, but it tickles me.
We help take care of community cats and a couple of them meow back to me when I talk to them.
One does it so much and it sounds like he's saying words that I call him Smartass.

Do you ever do anything people find weird?
Do you talk to animals, plants and insects?

"I'll miss the winter
A world of fragile things
Look for me in the white forest
Hiding in a hollow tree (come find me)
I know you hear me,
I can taste it in your tears."

Talking to living things seems normal to me. You're interacting with them, why wouldn't you include friendly sound? And as long as you're making noise, may as well talk to them.
And it's amazing how many vocabulary words pets will pick up.... they're pretty smart!

The thing I do that seems weird is forgetting words, and instead of pausing and doing the whole, "it's on the tip of my tongue!" thing, I'll just describe whatever it is that I've forgotten the term for, and keep going. This disconcerts my coworkers, since in general my vocabulary is rather extensive, and the words I'll forget are most frequently perfectly simple words (my boss the other day laughed so hard because in the middle of a conversation I'd forgotten the word for smartphone and just went, "the handheld computer-style telephones you can type with as well as talk with", and kept going. She had to stop me because she was laughing and couldn't hear anything after that).
But just because I've forgotten the word for salt doesn't mean I need to stop and try and remember it! I'll just ask you to pass the sodium chloride and move on with my life.
Evidently that's weird.
I don't see why, but evidently so.

Yeah, I think if we took a poll of petowners, the majority of them would say they talk to their animals. It just makes sense to do so....

Yeah, I can't imagine anyone not at least talking to their own pet!

Maybe the perception that it's "weird" to talk to living things is more about social embarrassment over how a lot of time people will use a more intimate tone with animals than they will with humans, and that gets folk defensive?
I don't know...

I'm not sure but I think most people do things that other people find weird. XD

I talk to animals all the time and I don't care who thinks it's weird. XD I think they can understand at least some of the time. Max knows a lot of English and has proved it again and again. I can tell him to take a random toy to a random person in the house and he'll do it. O.O Personally, I think talking to them a lot helps them understand better. Human babies learn language mostly because we talk to them so much and encourage them to speak. Even when animals can't understand what we're saying I think it helps them to feel included and they can discern how we feel by our tone. It's very therapeutic for us too.

My husband says when i make sandwiches i put stuff on both sides and when i am done i slap the sides together hoping nothing will fall out. I do this instead of putting everything on one side of the sandwich (making it easy). lol

Yes i talk to animals too, i find it comforting and i feel like they can understand your tone sometimes :qh:

Oh, yeah. Of course I talk to animals. I'll also talk to the furniture and appliances. I've spent quite a lot of time alone since the pandemic started. I figure as long as I don't think the refrigerator is going to answer me, it's okay.

It's easier to talk to non-human things, or dead things, because they can't talk back. They can't judge you. They're really good at listening.
