thatswhatshesaid To have empathy?

I play this game and I was checking its Twitter to see new updates and I saw people telling the people who make the game that the flashing in the game hurts people who are photosensitive.
The game had recently updated and this flashing is new. It didn't exist until the new update.
And to be honest, the flashing serves literally no purpose xD
While I'm not photosensitive - I do empathize with others and I don't think it was wrong to bring it up.
But I was reading the comments only to see a deleted comment that apparently told people to quit whining and toughen up if they're photosensitive.
The person deleted their comment because they couldn't handle the backlash they got.
I noticed one of the people who said they were photosensitive can't drive because they don't want to have a seizure and crash.
That's just horrible.
And I feel bad for them.
And it's not hard for me to feel bad for them.

I know online isn't equal to "reality".
People may act differently online than they do offline.
But to tell people that their health issues and disabilities aren't that big of a deal and people just need to get over it or toughen up is inconsiderate, unnecessary and just mean. Online or not.

I have depression and an anxiety disorder I didn't ask for.
I have bad eyesight and I'm dependent on glasses and I also didn't ask for it.
To be told just to get over it or that it's not important really makes me angry.
I would never tell someone else to get over something they didn't ask for and are forced to live with.

I wish you could smack people over the internet Bu

Have you ever been told to toughen up or get over something that you really have no control over?
Are you photosensitive?
Are you currently hungry?

I was very shy and sensitive as a kid and got bullied for it. People always told me to not let it bother me but never told me how to not let it bother me. I was frequently made to feel like I wasn't supposed to feel the way I felt and never (until I was in my 30s) taught any coping mechanisms. "Just get over it" is not realistic for physical or mental illness. You can't.

I am happily not photosensitive. Nor am I hungry at the moment.

the real kicker about telling people with disabilities like photosensitivity to "get over it" is that, uhhhh, no shit sherlock, if they could get over it, they would. the point is that they CAN'T.
no one chooses to have disabilities, which by definition limits their ABILITY to engage in a society that does not care that they're disabled, and no one can just "toughen up" because some idiot on the internet didn't want to hear about it.

it's just so stupid, i find it baffling that it's a real thing people even need to debate. just treat other people with some compassion, it's really not that hard.

i'm not photosensitive, but i do get migraines occasionally from bright lights. and i just ate, so not hungry.

My bf was raised very different than I was so he’s a bad listener and sometimes tells me to get over things when he shouldn’t

I think we can all relate to our problems not being taken seriously.
I often think that people are just not informed.
'haha I don't like lights lol' sounds different than 'it is an actual impairement in my life'.

YES I am hungry!!@

Being told to 'toughen up; is one of my pets peeves (although it depends of the context) people should be allowed to display their emotions and not feel ashamed or belittled for them.

Also I am always hungry~

Uuuugh. being told to "toughen up" or "don't let it bother you" is SUCH BS. It is NOT my fault that the bully is a piece of crap person.

I used to get bullied in school, to the point of having pens and pencils thrown at me when I was waiting for class to start... I went to the teachers, I went to the school administration. NOTHING was done.

Well said. My friend has epilepsy and I know a few people with it and lots of disabilities being autistic myself.

I get patronized and talked to like a child and perceived that way due to my mannerisms and my dwarfism too. But am still an adult.

I get banned from sites due to misunderstandings and was banned from a toxic small community just yesterday. Looking for a kind community.

What you said was so true. People need to be aware of all disabilities and be accommodating and understanding and treat them as you would treat anyone else

With my depression and anxiety disorder, I have been called "retarded", "stupid", and "lazy".
"Lazy" is a big insult people love to throw around when it comes to mental illness.
You can't do something because of your mental illness? You're just lazy!

With my Agoraphobia, it's hard for me to leave home.
Because I don't feel safe. I'm told get over it and people force me to leave home.
Imagine being terrified of sharks and having people try to force you into a tank full of sharks and when you don't want to go in, they tell you you're lazy and to get over it and your fear of being bitten is nonsense.

Despite its negatives, the internet is a blessed thing.
I have met so many understanding and considerate and accepting people online.
Especially on this site x3

The internet can be very toxic, especially on Twitter. It's sad.
